Benue all star: Monica Ogah joins the list


After several weeks of thrilling and exhilarating performances, 22-year-old Monica Ogah finally emerged the ultimate winner of the popular music reality show, MTN Project Fame West Africa Season 4, with a grand prize of N2.5 million, a Toyota RAV4 and a one-year multi-million naira worth recording contract.
Monica was declared winner of the ten weeks long musical contest during the grand finale of the show held on Sunday December 18, 2011, after beating the other five finalists by viewers’ votes as presented by Yetunde Oredugba of Alexander Forbes Consulting.
Roy, who was the last man standing, emerged first runner-up, winning N1.5 million and a fully loaded Toyota Corolla, Ese emerged second runner-up with N1 million and a Toyota Yaris, while Ghanian Ethel also smiled home with N1 million.
Presenting the grand prizes to the contestants, member of the Federal House of Representatives and Chairman, House Committee on Diaspora Affairs, Honourable Abike Dabiri, congratulated Monica for emerging winner of the show and advised her to make the best of the opportunity provided her by MTN Nigeria.
According to Honourable Dabiri, “This show is about encouraging creativity and I’m impressed with the performances of all the contestants. They are all winners as said earlier and I am happy that MTN is helping us to discover talents and bringing out the best in our youths”, she said.
The Benue state singer, while thanking MTN Nigeria and her fans across West Africa, said she had found fulfillment in singing and promised to make Nigerians proud with a successful music career beyond the MTN Project Fame.
“I’m so excited; I don’t know what to say right now. But I want to specially thank God for giving me the grace to win this competition. It wasn’t an easy contest because all the other contestants are also very talented. I also want to specially thank MTN Nigeria for coming up with this initiative and giving us the opportunity and the platform to achieve our dreams”, she gushed.
Monica who exudes an air of confidence and a ‘go-get-it’ outlook throughout the competition, started singing early in life. The last child in a family of four boys and two girls. She speaks English, Idoma and Igede languages fluently and adores artistes like Brandy, Stella Damasus, Asa and Majid Michael.
The MTN Project Fame Closing Gala was a fun-packed show, which also had Nigeria’s young pop sensation, Wizkid and American popular R&B group Dru Hill rocking the Project Fame stage with scintillating performances of their hit songs, to the delight of the large studio audience. The reality show continues in 2012.
